Mardi Gras Favoured

The Herald's Randwick trackman Mick O'Brien says three-year-old Mardi Gras has worked well enough to make it two wins in a row at Randwick tomorrow.

The Tommy Smith-trained galloper is O'Brien's best for the program in the C-Y Hire Superfecta, 1,400m.

"Mardi Gras has continued to improve since dead-heating for first at Randwick a few weeks ago and this morning galloped impressively over 1,000m in 1min 5.5s when ridden by Noel Barker," O'Brien said yesterday. "Mardi Gras is at peak fitness now and should prove very hard to beat again."

The trackman said consistent galloper Ravenstone had worked well again and should prove hard to beat in the June Stakes, 1,100m.

"Ravenstone ran 600m in 37.5s when ridden by Neil Paine this morning on the A grass and is very fit," he said.

From Rosehill, Ron Duggan likes Dazzle in the ACI Glass Recycling Handicap and Sansiya in the Randwick Council Subscribers Course Handicap.

"Dazzle is much fitter for her first run this time," he said. "Today she impressed me going 800m in 51s, 16m out on the inside grass. The 1,000m should really suit her and she's won twice at Randwick.

"Sansiya is a last-start winner and she's right at peak fitness."
